The Association of Retired Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) Officers was formed in February 2000 with a select membership of about 25 retired Inspectors General and Directors General of Police. Today the membership of the Association stands at an impressive figure of more than hundred over a period of eight years.
The rationale behind forming the Association is that, as members of the IPS - one of the three All-India Services provided in the Indian Constitution - the officers acquire long and rich experience of law enforcement, intelligence and various other aspects which converge into maintaining the national integrity and safeguarding the national security. These officers, while in service, inculcated a deep espirit-de-corps and close professional links with each other over long periods of service.
The Association aims to continually harness the rich experience of the retired officers and provide them with a common platform for continuing the professional and social interactions among them as established over the years.
The aims and objectives of the Association thus, inter alia, provide:
1, |
To facilitate social interaction and promote esprit de corps among retired and serving IPS officers and their families |
2, |
To provide a forum for facilitating exchange of ideas and information among members and serving or retired professionals and scholars/experts etc. on matters of common interest in the field of law, justice, human development, administration, security, public order and other matters of national importance |
3, |
To articulate the views of members in any matter and through any medium deemed fit by the Executive Committee/General Body on any matter concerning the Association or its member collectively |
Towards this end, the Association organises professional activities by way of invited lectures, panel discussions and seminars on subjects of professional interest to the members.
The Association also plans to undertake in-depth studies, sponsored or otherwise, on topics of national security and associated aspects.
On the social side, the Association organises get togethers of the members and their spouses, mostly over lunch or dinner.
